Immersiv Supports Industry-Standard 3D Content

3D models can be created using any 3D modeling tool; we recommend using 3D Studio or Maya to export valid 3DS files.  In the image above, a 3D model is shown in 3D Studio and the same model is shown in the Immersiv Client.  The Immersiv real-time rendering engine faithfully supports most of the basic material types of the 3DS file format and care is taken to optimize the 3D models for use on the internet.

Constraints and product behaviors may be defined for each object to control their position in the scene as well as how it interacts with other objects in the scene.  Business rules may be defined in JavaScript or PHP to enforce design guidelines and rules in order to validate designs created by the end-users

Most Web sites are developed using some or all of the following assets:

  • Text
  • Raster images (PNG, JPG, TIFF)
  • Flash movies
  • Video\Audio

In addition to the assets listed above, a Web site that includes Immersiv will require the following Immersiv-specific content:

  • 2D vector files such as EMF and DXF can be created with any CAD or Illustration type software such as AutoCAD or Illustrator
  • 3D Mesh files such as 3DS, OBJ, DWF, SKP
  • Raster files  such as BMP and JPG for the Immersiv catalog images
  • Constraints definitions
  • Rules definitions

The Immersiv-specific content is generally  incorporated into the existing "Web content development pipeline." The vast majority of artists are already trained in creating 3D content for video games or for the Internet. Currently, there are thousands of 3D models available either for purchase, or for free from such sites as the Google 3D  Warehouse.
